Definition and Epidemiology
Heart failure (HF) (previously referred to as congestive heart failure) is a clinical syndrome of left or right ventricular dysfunction resulting in the heart being unable to fill or eject an adequate amount of blood to meet the metabolic demands of the body and organ congestion from elevated pulmonary or systemic venous pressures (1).
