Despite the favourable clinical course of infantile colic, many parents seek medical help. Since colic is a diagnosis of exclusion (1), it is important to ensure there is no underlying cause to infant colic. Other causes to rule out include:
  • hair in the eye 
  • strangulated hernia
  • otitis media
  • sepsis
  • bronchiolitis 
  • gastroesophageal reflux
  • intussusception
  • meningitis (septic or bacterial)
  • pneumonia
  • cow’s milk or soy protein intolerance (1).
