Classes of drugs that are most likely to have nutritional implications
CLASS OF DRUGPOSSIBLE NUTRITIONAL IMPLICATIONS
Amphetamines
 Increased appetite
Antacids- Can bind with minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, iron and zinc, and reduce their absorption
- Antacids raise gastric pH and this may also impair the absorption of some trace elements, especially vitamin B12, which requires acid conditions for its release from dietary protein
Antibiotics- Anorexia
- Altered gut flora and diarrhoea
